Qatar has sent another batch of aid to help the flood victims in Somalia. This comes following the directives of the Amir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani to help the flood-hit people.
“Qatar continued to transfer aid to support people affected by the flood that has hit towns in the south and centre of Somalia,” Qatar News Agency said in a report.
Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD), in coordination with the Standing Committee for Rescue and Relief Works and Humanitarian Aids for Afflicted Areas in Brotherly and Friendly Countries, has sent the new consignment of aid.
The consignment comprises 46 tonnes of various medical and relief materials, bringing the total aid sent from Qatar so far to 88 tonnes. The relief items, transported by a plane of the Qatari Amiri Air Force, were accompanied by a team from the Qatari International Search and Rescue Group (Lekhwiya). Earlier, Qatar had sent 42 tonnes of relief materials.
Rains have raised the water levels of the Shabelle and Juba rivers in Somalia, displacing thousands of families.
