PRIME Minister and Minister of Interior HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al Thani inaugurated the 2022 Building at Aspire Zone on Monday.
The inauguration coincides with the ninth anniversary of Qatar winning the bid to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Qatar is the first country in the Middle East that will be hosting the World Cup.
After watching a short film on the development of sports and sports facilities in Qatar, the prime minister also listened to a brief presentation on the design of the building and its sections. The building is the first in the world designed in the form of 2022.
The event was attended by a number of their excellencies sheikhs and senior sports officials.
The 60,000 square-metre mixed-use building includes administrative offices, integrated health club, restaurants and cafes as well as meeting rooms and a lecture theatre.
The building consists of four wings of five floors each. Al Bandari is the main contractor and Laura International is the developer of the project.
The idea of having Building 2022 came in 2011 while the design was completed in 2013 and the actual work started in mid-2018.
The building was completed and opened on December 2, 2019.
The building joins the Aspire Zone’s multiple facilities -- stadiums, academy, garden, hotel, shopping mall and hospital.
Mohammed Khalifa al Suwaidi, CEO of Aspire Zone, said: “The foundation always supports investors and presents them with investment opportunities. We, therefore, congratulate HE Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad bin Nasser al Thani on this project and wish him well.”
Ibrahim Jaidah, who designed the Al Thumama Stadium, said this building is an addition to the large and prominent projects in Qatar as Qatar gears up to host the most important event in the history of sports in the region.
Ibrahim Jaidah is the only Gulf designer who designed one of the 2022 stadiums.
Qatar won the bid to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup on December 2, 2010.
