Qatar handball team ready for Asia championship

Qatar will leave for Kuwait City on Tuesday with an aim to dominate the Asia Men’s Handball Championship once again.
Champions in 2014, 2016, 2018, Al Annabi are sending 20 players to Kuwait, along with coaching and administration personnel.
Coached by Valero Rivera, the former world silver medallists Qatar will be represented by Ahmad Madadi, Abdulrahman Tariq, Rafael Capote, Allaedine Berrached, Rasheed Yusuff, Ameen Zakkar, Mahmoud Zaki, Danijel Saric, Wajdi Sinen, Anis Zouaoui, Hani Kakhi, Mustafa al Karad, Moustafa Heiba, Yasin Sami, Hassan Awad, Mohammed Amin, Marwan Sassi, Yousef bin Ali, Frankis Marzo and Mario Tomic.
The delegation is headed by Adel al Anzi, a member of the Qatar Handball Federation Board of Directors. Youssef al Hail is the Team Director, Youssef al Moallem is Administrative Head.
Besides the camp, Qatar hosted Iran and went to Croatia to figure in a friendly tournament.
Al Adam defeated Iran in both the matches 31-16 and 36-24. They beat the Bosnian team 30-27 but lost to Croatian outfit 28-33.
Qatar are placed in Group B with China and Japan. Their opening match is against China on January 16, while they face Japan on January 18. Thirteen teams have been placed in four groups. Pool A has Bahrain, Iran and New Zealand. Pool C consists of South Korea, Saudi Arabia and Australia, while Pool D comprises hosts Kuwait, the UAE, Hong Kong and Iraq.
After the group league, two tops teams from each pool advance to two pools in the Main Round action.
Then again two top finishers from each group will qualify for the semi-finals, to be held on January 25. All the semi-finalists will get a chance to play in the World Championships in Egypt from January 14 to 31, 2021.
