School children, Nakilat employees and families plant trees on Al Khor Road

A group of students of Al Khor Model School for Boys along with Nakilat employees and their families, participated in a plantation event at Al Khor Road Development Project site on Saturday, which was attended by officials of the Public Works Authority ‘Ashghal’ and the Ministry of Municipality and Environment.
The event was held as part of ‘Qatar Beautification and Our Kids Planting Trees’ campaign launched by the Supervisory Committee of Beautification of Roads and Public Places in Qatar to plant a million trees.
Speaking on the occasion, Eng Yousef al Emadi, director of Projects Affairs at Ashghal, said “Ashghal has undertaken many initiatives aimed at environmental preservation and sustainability. These include, constructing green buildings, recycling of excavation waste and tyres and using it in road projects, using treated sewage water for irrigation and conducting awareness drives, such as the ‘Qatar Beautification and Our Kids Planting Trees’, which aims to increase students’ awareness of the importance of protecting the environment.”
He also thanked Nakilat and the MME’s Public Parks Department for their donation of 1,000 trees.
Rashid Hamad al Marri, chief administration officer at Nakilat, said: “As a responsible corporate citizen, we recognise the importance of operating in a sustainable manner. With the participation of 40 Nakilat employees and their families, we extend our full support to the ministry and Ashghal in their efforts to create a safe and healthy environment for citizens and residents in Qatar”.
The Head of Projects Section in the Public Parks Department at MME, Khalid Ahmad al Sandi, said “We have implemented many initiatives aimed at raising the community’s awareness of the importance of increasing green areas and planting trees. We take particular care to plant only those trees that are suitable for Qatari environment.”
Sandi added that treated water is used to irrigate trees and green spaces, which contribute to environmental protection and preservation of water resources.
On his part, CMC Member from Constituency 25 Abdullah Mgalad al Muraikhi stated that he strives for the development of his ward into an ideal area where the citizens and residents feel calm and content. He also expressed his happiness over the participation of people in this campaign to protect Qatar’s environment.
A student of Al Khor Model School for Boys Saad Hamad al Kaabi said: “I am very happy to plant three trees today.” Another student Mubarak Mohamed al Mohannadi said: “It feels good that our effort will make the street look beautiful.”
Meanwhile, Eng Sara Kafoud gave a brief presentation on the role of the Supervisory Committee of Beautification of Roads and Public Places in Qatar and plantation works on Al Khor Road Development Project.
